UpdatesDan's Beer List is back! We're kicking off the summer right with a series of tastings called "Six Pack Saturdays." These tastings will follow our traditional style with a new beer theme each Saturday. Click here to see what's happening this week! Brewery Expeditions (Yeah, that's me with Ken Grossman):
For Christmas LT got me pretty much the greatest present of all time (an autographed Sierra Nevada poster from Ken Grossman himself). For those of you who don't know, Ken Grossman is the founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and my idol. To make the present even cooler she scheduled us for a tour of the brewery and some how set up a meet and greet with Ken. Yeah, I fucking shook his hand! It was the childhood equivalent of going to Disneyland and meeting Mickey. The tour was amazing! Way better than it was ten years ago when I was 18 years old. The brewery is like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Truly magical!

Beer: Lagunitas Lucky 13 Grade: A Comments: This beer is basically what would happen if an Imperial IPA raped a young hot amber ale. It weighs in at a lofty 8.56% and 76.92 IBU according to the bottle. It pours a deep copper, nearly brown color with a fluffy tan persistent head. Like most Lagunias beers (maybe all?) it has a very distinct and powerful American hop aroma and smells a little alcoholic. More of the fruity an floral variety and less the piny variety. Just what you would expect from Lagunitas. The flavor is also very hop forward but is followed by a rich caramel, slightly burnt sugar tasting maltyness which gives way to kind of a ripe fruit flavor then finishes with a very clean and smooth (but strong) bitterness. The intense malt flavor hides the alcohol very well. This beer is incredibly balanced for a big hoppy beer. Delish! Monday, November 8, 2010 at 6:56pm |

Beer: Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA Grade: A Comments: This brew pours an exceptionally clear (for an IPA) medium orange/copper color with a frothy white persistent head that laces the glass all the way to the bottom. The aroma of this beer is nothing short of amazing. Resinous, piney and pungent hop aroma with a slightly sweet malt background. The flavor begins as a light sweet maltiness before the fresh resinous hop flavor kicks your teeth in. It finishes with a pleasant bitter toasted caramel flavor. I've never rated an A+ but this is about as close as it gets. Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 6:48pm |

Beer: Raging Bitch Belgian IPA Grade: B+ Comments: Pours a light copper with a thick creamy head. There's an interesting contrast of aromas in this one. Mostly dominated by clove with hints of bubble gum and floral hops. Little to no malt aroma. The flavor is slightly sweet and much like what you would expect from a Belgian Dubbel with spicy sweet esters but with a slight American hop flavor. The beer finishes very dry with a very pronounced bitterness. This beer is a bit of a mind fuck but a well executed mix of two very distinctive styles. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 8:26pm |

Beer: Gordon Biersch Czech Style Pilsner Grade: B+ Comments: Pours a light straw yellow with a thick foamy white head. Very spicy clean hop aroma with little to no malt aroma. The flavor of this beer is very crisp and refreshing. It's very hop forward with a strong bitterness. Clean and smooth with a nice spicy hop bite to dry it out. Awesome lawn mower beer. Shit I need to mow my lawn.... Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 7:35pm |

Beer: Rogue Mocha Porter Grade: A Comments: This beer was awesome, although I had three beers before this and one of them was bitch creek. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 3:43pm |

Beer: GRIMBERGEN Double Ale Grade: B Comments: This beer was just ok. It pretty much got a lower grade because the GRIMBERGEN Blonde Ale put it to shame. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 3:39pm |

Beer: GRIMBERGEN Blonde Ale Grade: A Comments: I gave this beer an A because it taste like 4.5% alcohol but is actually 6.7%. A great beer for a first date. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 3:37pm |

Beer: Rogue Chipotle Ale Grade: C Comments: Let me start off by saying that this beer was reccomended to me by a random person I met at Bev Mo. This Beer is hard to explain, it has an amber color but is pretty hoppy.I would say in the Pale Ale range. As I drank it the spice really built up and eventually I had to stop drinking it and wait for the burn to go away. I was put off by this beer mainly because I felt like I needed to drink another beer with it to fight the heat. It was not refreshing in any way and was almost a chore to drink. That being said the flavor was unique and unlike any beer I have ever had that is why I'm giving it a C. The one benefit to drinking a spicy drink is you know it's not gonna burn when it comes out. Beer: Anchor Summer Beer Grade: A- Comments: Refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat with an abundant head. A light crisp ale that's easy to drink and tastes great! Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 5:42pm |

Beer: Anderson Valley Imperial IPA Grade: A- Comments: Apparently this beer was brewed to commemorate Anderson Valley's 20th Anniversary. It's an 8.7% IIPA. It pours a medium copper color with a fast dissipating head. The aroma is very malty despite the fact that the label says there were 20 separate hop additions, but you can definitely smell the fresh hops. (20 hop additions? Suck on that Miller Lite!!!). The flavor is really hop forward but with an exceptionally long malty and bitter finish. It's very balanced for an IPA and the malt and hop flavor hide the alcohol very well. I'm going to steal from Brian here and say that this beer tastes like awesome! Monday, April 12, 2010 at 7:51pm |

Beer: Rising Moon Spring Ale Grade: B Comments: I like this spring ale its not heavy and has a little more bite than the summer ale. It's a wheat beer if you're into that kind of shit. If not then maybe its not the beer for you. Which means more for me! Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:50pm |

Beer: Ryan Light Grade: B+ Comments: The Gov. Brewed a pretty good light beer. The beer was light but not on flavor. Had a lemon after taste that the wife really liked. I think we need a movie night with Ryan Light! Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:47pm |

Beer: HE'BREW Origin Pomegranate Ale Grade: A- Comments: It tasted like fruit punch to me. Um, I could definitely drink 100 of these over a four day weekend. The essence of the flavor rolled off my tongue. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 7:58pm Click here to see more! |
